Care Guide (If Applicable)
A sculpture and whistle in one, this lovely loon would make a striking addition to your home and bring joy to those who play it.
Each sculpture is made from Maine “blue” clay that is dug from the maker’s back field. The entire creation process—from rolling out the clay slab, to cutting them out, and decorating them—is done by hand.
The designs are inspired by the artist’s love of native birds.
All sculptures arrive in an individual box, which makes it great for gift-giving.
These loons measure approximately 5" long, 3.5" tall, and 3" wide.
How To Play the Whistle
The Wail
A loon's wail is meant to cross long distances and can have one, two, or three notes. To make these sounds, put your finger over the hole and blow. Then, lift your finger to play the higher note, and replace your finger to lower again: "ooooo OOO oo!"
The Tremolo
The laughing call, the tremolo, sounds the alarm. When you hear this, it means the loon is threatened, and you should give it some distance. The loon may be protecting a nearby nest or chick. Loons also sound the tremolo when they are flying. To play the tremolo, do a fluttering pant while you blow: lift your finger to play the call up first and then put it down: "ha ha ha ha ha HA HA HA ha."
