This print is inspired by the 1901 Maine flag that became popular in 2020 for the Maine Bicentennial. Though this watercolor is simple at first, it also shows the artist’s attention to detail.

The white pine tree is Maine’s state tree, and the star is the north star, which is a visual representation of Maine’s state motto “Dirigo,” or “I direct.”
