Disconnect for some relaxation and rejuvenation at one of the most iconic Maine locations imaginable — Whitehead Light Station, an authentic working lighthouse on the coast of Maine. Your 4-day, 3-night adventure includes everything from sunrise and sunset cruises, lighthouse history, island exploration and lobster bakes, kayaking and expert-led foraging walk, all with some comfortable downtime to recenter yourself. Enjoy meals centered around the abundance of local seafood and farm fare in midcoast Maine.

An additional 9% Maine state lodging tax will be charged on the meals and lodging portion of the fee.

More About Whitehead Light Station

Whitehead Light Station is located on Whitehead Island, which is about 8 miles southwest of Rockland and about 3 miles northeast of Tenants Harbor, placing it directly off the coast from Spruce Head.

It was Thomas Jefferson’s signature that authorized the construction of a small dwelling and a stone lighthouse in 1803 on Whitehead Island, which lies at the mouth of Penobscot Bay. Ever since, the Whitehead Light Station has provided a beacon to mariners making their way up and down the Maine coast. In 1982, Whitehead Light Station was automated and, while the lighthouse continued to operate, the dwellings and outbuildings were shuttered and abandoned. In 1996, through the Maine Lights Program, Pine Island Camp became owner of the Whitehead Light Station and began renovations. The restoration process was completed in 2008 and the result is a facility that is remote but comfortable, with a private bath in each room, electricity, and comfortable common areas, including a library.

Today, the light station continues to provide a beacon to mariners from its granite lighthouse, and it has a new mission: to provide programming for adults that will give them the opportunity to experience life at a historic Maine island light station, to step out of the busy world of the mainland, and to gain knowledge of specific subjects, the Maine coast, and themselves.

Accommodations

The seven-bedroom lightkeeper’s house sits on 11.1 acres. All bedrooms have their own private bath. The house also includes two sitting rooms, a library, a dining room, and a full kitchen. All linens are provided.

Transportation

You will be picked up on and returned to the mainland by the Whitehead Light Station captain in one of the Whitehead Light Station boats.

August Trip

August 26: Pick up at 3:30pm on mainland

September 26: Pick up at 3:30pm on mainland
September 29: Return to mainland 11:00am

Cancellations

The payment is 50% refundable in the event you have to cancel, as long as the cancellation is made 21 days before the trip. After that time, your payment is non-refundable. Alternately, 100% of your payment will be refunded if a replacement can be found prior to the trip. However, if, due to state and/or federal COVID-19 policies, a lockdown is still in effect, we will refund 100% or offer credit on a future trip.
